O documento “Os povos indígenas na América Latina: avanços na última década e desafios pendentes para a garantia de seus direitos” contribuiu para os debates levantados durante a Conferência Mundial sobre os Povos Indígenas da Organização das Nações Unidas (ONU), realizada em 22 e 23 de setembro de 2014, em Nova York. Segue um resumo:

“Los países de América Latina del siglo XXI están experimentando una profundización de sus democracias, proceso que va de la mano con la reflexión y mirada crítica al desarrollo y con el creciente convencimiento de que este debe centrarse en la igualdad con una perspectiva de derechos. Esto supone enfrentar las desigualdades que persisten en la región, en particular aquellas que afectan a los pueblos indígenas, que han sido históricamente excluidos y discriminados. Conlleva, además, garantizar el igual disfrute de los derechos humanos de las personas indígenas y, al mismo tiempo, el derecho a ser colectivos diferentes. Este siglo se inicia con el reconocimiento de los derechos de los pueblos indígenas y su innegable protagonismo en las agendas nacionales e internacionales.”
